About the Role:
We are seeking a Staff Accountant in the Commercial Real Estate / Property Management industry. Our client is one of the TOP real estate firms, established in multiple states! The Staff Accountant is a full-time, on-site accounting professional responsible for managing general ledger activities, financial reporting, and property-level accounting for corporate entities and real estate operations. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with experience in real estate accounting, financial statement preparation, and month-end close processes. The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring accurate financial records, GAAP compliance, and timely reporting within a fast-paced, multi-entity environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts for corporate entities and operating real estate properties.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, amortization, depreciation, and intercompany transactions.
  • Execute monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and supporting schedules for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for corporate and property-level operations.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, tenant ledgers, and property-level cash flow accounts.
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including expense coding, invoice processing, and deposit allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal accounting controls, and established financial policies and procedures.
  • Partner with property managers and finance team members to resolve discrepancies and improve financial accuracy.
  • Contribute to special projects, audit support, and accounting process improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate accounting or property management accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close procedures.
  • Experience preparing financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as Yardi, Sage Timberline, or similar ERP systems.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple entities simultaneously.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with real estate property-level financials, lease accounting, and tenant reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of intercompany eliminations, consolidations, and multi-entity reporting structures.
  • Experience supporting audits and preparing audit schedules.
  • CPA designation or CPA candidacy preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and process improvement skills.
